Select Teams Advance in Pony Tournament

14u and 12u teams enjoy strong weekend

Updated Monday June 25, 2018 by El Cerrito Youth Baseball.

This past weekend around the Bay Area, the ECYB 8u, 12u, and 14u Select Teams participated in the opening rounds of the Pony World Series Tournament.

In Vacaville, the 14u ECYB Rampage stormed through their bracket, winning all five games by an average score of about 10-3. Excellent pitching, sharp defense and timely hitting all came together, and the Rampage dominated the competition. All 15 members of the team contributed to the victories, and the team is proud to have won the District Championship, bringing home the banner to El Cerrito. They resume play in the Regional round this coming Sunday, 7/1.

Also in Vacaville, the 12u Gauchos also advanced to the District championship game. After going 2-1 in pool play, the Gauchos faced a formidable Vacaville team. The game went back and forth, and despite playing a great brand of baseball, the Gauchos fell just short, losing 7-5. However, the 12u team will also be advancing to the Sectional round this Saturday, also back in Vacaville.

Meanwhile, in Pittsburg, the 8u Pinto All Stars played in their first Pony tournament games. Despite running into some tough competition, the 8u kids played hard and had a blast. They got to play under the lights for the first time, and after the first game, one of the star players didn't even know whether they had won or lost. A huge congratulations and thanks to Coach Eric and his staff, who did a great job coaching and encouraging the kids. The 8u team will continue to play other tournaments throughout the summer.
