DURING THE WEEK:
The City of El Cerrito decides whether to close fields from Monday through Friday. The City has established an automatic notification system for field closures. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for this free service by clicking the following link and selecting the email or text icons for field closure notices: Notification System Signup. More detailed instructions are at the bottom of this article. Notifications may be received by email or text.
ON WEEKENDS:
If the City proactively closes fields for the weekend, the League President will send a league-wide email canceling all games. If not, the following applies:
Division Presidents & League VP & President will text about fields on Friday night and/or Saturday morning. 2023 season - these people will check these fields: Tassajara (Kelly), Cerrito Vista (Adam), Harding (Jake), Castro (Doug).
DPs & VP & President will make the call about specific fields (eg, some fields may be usable even if others are not) before 8am on Saturdays, and also before 8am on Sundays if applicable.
DPs will email or text all managers/TBMs by 8am on Saturday (and Sunday if applicable) with a clear message about games being ON or OFF. If rain is expected later in the day, it is preferable to get in as many games as possible in the morning and then canceling games later in the day if needed.
The head umpire will be contacted before 8:30am on Saturday (and Sunday if applicable) to tell them whether games are on or off.
DURING A GAME:
NOTES:
If the City closes the fields, all teams must stay off the fields completely, not just stay off the dirt infields. The City may charge the league $200 if any team is observed practicing or play
If no official field closure notice has gone out, but it has rained recently, please exercise good judgment. If the infields are muddy, you see ponding water, the dirt sticks to your players' feet, or you see field closure signs, then PLEASE STAY OFF THE FIELDS.
Our baseball fields are our most precious resource. Please help us keep them in the best possible condition for the whole season. Thank you for your cooperation.
